Dolphins
and porpoises belong to the cetacean order of mammals. The cetacean
order is divided into two groups - baleen whales and toothed whales.
Among the toothed whales there are over thirty-five species of oceanic
dolphins and porpoises that widely vary in size, shape, and coloration.
Dolphins and porpoises are social animals, living in groups that
range in size from a few individuals to several thousand. Photographing
these animals as they instantly break the surface to breathe is
quite the challenge requiring quick reflexes, anticipation and lots
of film.
