These
photos show in detail the features of humpback whale anatomy. Several
of these photos show humpbacks feeding. Humpback whales engulf huge
quantities of water and prey with their expandable throat grooves.
The mouth is closed trapping the prey, the water is strained out
through the sieve-like baleen hanging from the top of the mouth
and the prey is swallowed. In the fluke pictures, note the unique
markings for each fluke. These patterns are used to identify individual
whales like a human fingerprint.
