Though
called a whale, the killer whale is actually the largest member
of the dolphin family. Killer whales live in stable family groups,
remaining close to their mothers all through life; eating, traveling,
and resting together. There are distinct types of killer whales
that have different diets, feeding strategies, ranges, vocalizations,
appearances and genetics. Resident types prefer eating fish, while
transient types favor marine mammals such as seals and sea lions.
