Pictured
below are three species of eared seals, the California, Galapagos
and Northern (Steller) sea lions, and three species of earless seals,
the harbor, northern elephant, and Hawaiian monk seals. Eared
seals have external ear flaps. They move on land with front flippers
extended and hind flippers pulled forward under them. Earless seals
have no external ear flaps and hind flippers that extend straight
back. On land they crawl awkwardly since they cannot pull their
hind flippers under them like sea lions. In water seals and sea
lions are fast and graceful.
